DIY McCalls Pattern 7243 Second Version

Hey Ladies,

Ok, soooooooo I like this so much that I made number 2! Yes this is my second version so I won't write a complete write up on this. I believe this style dress can be for any shape worn with the right type shape ware. Yeah, you need it.

I added a few notes worth while mentioning with making the second version.

Here's the link to the first one made.

Fabric Used: Grape Wine Ponte De Roma Knit from Low Price Fabric

Pattern Cut in Size: 16 versus 20  McCalls 7243
this time around so I didn't have any alterations. I did add 3 inches to the length, it's just too short for me.  I left everything unhemmed, is unhemmed a word?  I don't know but what I do know, in order to pull this unhemmed thing off, cutting your fabric MUST be on point. Please ladies no jagged edges if you plan on not hemming this! Maybe I should do a tutorial on cutting fabric? Let me think about that one.

Accessories:
Long Nine West Boots (old), tights from Wal-Mart and Ralph Lauren neckless and earring set (old) but I just went to the Polo store with my hubby and they still have the set and in gold plated.

I'm putting this pattern up for now, I've made two and that's plenty for me but don't hold me to it!

Checking out and we'll chat later!

Are you making it work for you?

DIY McCalls Pattern 7020

Hey Ladies,

I hope all is well and eve
ryone had a wonderful Christmas and an even better coming New Year! I've been meaning to sew McCalls 7020 view E tunic for a while and finally I was able to do so. What I've done is given you 3 looks; a work attire, date night with the hubby and a night out with the girls!

The pattern was very easy and if you're new to sewing and need help, MiMi G Style has a free tutorial on Michael Levine’s Blog so check it out here. I didn't need the instructions however I did read them. Rule of thumb, never sew without first reviewing the instructions, I don't care how good of a sewer you are. It’s a good habit to have and practice.  Although I didn’t need Mimi G’s tutorial I did view it to see what fashionable touches she added.  As always she delivers!  What I liked about Mimi G’s free tutorial was how she extended the collar, which gives you the option to wear it as a hood or simply as a cowl neck.

I also added my own fashionable touch by making the sleeves longer with thumb cutouts. I thought this really added a little pizzazz to the tunic turned dress that I absolutely love and the adjustments were super easy. If you would like information on how I did this simply comment below and I'll get that information to you.

I used a charcoal color double knit from Joann's and I added 3 inches to make it longer to wear as a dress. Let me just say this thang is SHORT! So if you're conscience on things being too short then I don't recommend this tunic to wear as a dress or I recommend you make it longer. I plan on making it again with adding maybe a total of 5 inches next time around. I love the loose fit that the medium gave me. I wore Jessica Simpson chunky heel booties, a Dooney and Burke purse, added a belt and a pair of tan tights to complete the look. A very simple look yet fashionable.

You know this is a complete afterthought but throw on a pair of Chuck's "high tops of course", a jean jacket and now you're ready for a date night with your kids without looking old like my kids tell me! "Ma, don't look so old fashion" what the hell!

I'll See You Next Year!

DIY McCalls Pattern 7243

Hey Ladies,

WOW its been a long minute but I'm back and better than ever.

McCalls 7243 Description: Close-fitting, pullover top and dresses have collar, and stitched hems. Narrow hem finish on collar, and armholes A.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing? Yes, except mine is longer.

Pattern Difficulty: Easy

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love how the bodice fit closely to your body and love love the wide collar, No dislikes here!

Fabric Used: Black Ponte De Roma Knit and Faux Leather from Low Price Fabric which can be found here

Cut in Size: 20

Fitting: Too Big

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added 3 inches to the dress length because I wanted it below or right at my knees. I had to take it in 2 inches on both sides. I did not hem the collar.

Would you sew it again? Yes, already did!

Would you recommend it to others? Yes!

Conclusion: What's not to love about this great winter dress that fit close to the body or should I say curves beautifully.

Accessories: Tharai Shoe Booties

I'm very new to blogging but stay tuned, there will be more exciting things to come as I learn my way around in the blogging world.
